ROME, Ga. — An 11-year-old Georgia boy unexpectedly lost his mother on July 8. Kayden said he plans to sell hotdogs to pay for his mom's funeral.
Kayden's mother, Shannon Mount, 45, died earlier in July, but her family has been struggling with burial costs. So, Kayden wanted to do what he could to help.
The 11-year-old planned to set up a hot dog stand and use the money he earned to bury his mom with respect.
For two days, he stood on the side of the road in Rome, Georgia, to let people know he was having a sale.
A driver saw his sign that read, "Please Help Bury my Mama," and shared his plea on social media.
From there, people from all over the country stepped in to donate directly to the funeral home to cover her expenses.
As soon as the funeral expenses were covered, more people donated to an online fundraiser to support Kayden.
In just hours, community members exceeded the fundraiser's goal and shared their support for Kayden online.
The little boy was so overwhelmed by the community's support that he decided to keep his hot dog sale and give them away for free.
He lives with his aunt, Jennifer Fife, now. Fife said Kayden was so grateful for the support he wanted to give back.
Kayden's mom will be laid to rest this weekend.
