LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (WTHR) — With food and beverage businesses across the country being forced to adapt to pick-up and delivery only orders, one New York brewery is taking a step to make orders a little more special.
The Six Harbors Brewing Company has two resident dogs: Buddy and Barley. With the brewery having to close its doors to in-person customers, the owners started hearing about customers missing the dogs.
"We started bringing the dogs on some of the deliveries and we said, 'Hey, why don't we make this a permanent thing?'" owner Karen Ravn-Heuwetter said.
Now, Buddy and Barley tag along for all the deliveries. They've been delivering craft beer and smiles to customers in the community for two months.
"I was very excited," said customer Ken Knowles. "First time I've ever had beer delivered by a couple of dogs. So, it makes the beer extra special."
The two golden retrievers hop out of the delivery truck, greet the customers at their front door with empty beer cans around their collars, then the real beer follows.
Ravn-Heuwetter said it wasn't too hard to train the dogs to do the job because they've been missing people just as much as people have been missing them.
