Courtroom fight breaks out after murder suspects found guilty

After receiving a guilty verdict for murder, a man attacked his attorney in the corutroom.

MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WESH) — It was chaos inside a Florida courtroom as a fight broke out after a verdict hearing.

Right after guilty verdicts for murder, there was disorder in a Florida courtroom.

One defendant, named Travis Davis, smacked his attorney.

"They got emotional, they got upset, they started flailing away and I just happened to be in the way," said defense attorney Daniel Hernandez.

As Davis is restrained, another man started throwing punches and is tackled to the ground. Then Davis started throwing more punches.

"I kind of got hit from the back, which is good," Hernandez said. "If I got hit from the front I probably would have a broken nose or a broken jaw."

Extra deputies were in court that day because of worries about violence, so they quickly got things under control.

"They were being tasered and the bailiffs were trying to get control of the courtroom as fast as possible and order was restored," said Hernandez.

The men were sentenced to life after the home invasion and murder of Courtney London of Ocala, Florida.

London was killed his his home two years ago in front of his children. The children ran to a friend's home.

"The said, 'Miss Diane, please help us, please help us. Somebody shot my dad,'" said friend Diane Williams. "To somebody like Courtney, they deserve whatever they got because it was a shame and they're showing how they really are with an attack on the courtroom. That's ridiculous."

As for the defense attorney, he got a few hits to the end and ended up with a few scratches, but he'll be OK.

Davis, his client, apologized in front of the judge.
