BRIDGETON, N.J. (WTHR) — A 5-year-old girl who is the subject of an Amber Alert was kidnapped, according to police.

The girl disappeared from Bridgeton, New Jersey around 4 p.m. Monday. She wa playing at Bridgeton City Park with her little brother, WCAU reported.

A man allegedly led Dulce Maria Alavez from the playground to a red van with a sliding side door and tinted windows, WCAU reported. She was taken around 4:20 p.m., police said.

Alavez was last seen wearing a yellow shirt, black and white checkered pants with a flower design and white dress sandals. She is about 3 feet 5 inches tall.

Police said Alavez was taken by a light-skinned male who appeared to be about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has a thin build and was clean-shaven with acne on his face. The suspect wore orange sneakers (possibly Nike), red pants and a black T-shirt.

Police have surveillance from the area but do not have any "solid suspects" in the case.

The girl's mother, 19-year-old Noema Alavez Perez, let the younger children run to the playground while she stayed in the car with the other child.

About 10 minutes later, the boy returned crying with his sister nowhere to be found. He pointed behind some buildings and told his mother she went that direction.

"I thought she was just playing hide-and-seek, that she was playing in the woods," Alavez Perez told WCAU.

Investigators, police and search parties have been actively looking for the girl since Monday night.

Anyone with information about the disappearance is asked to contact Bridgeton police at 856-451-0033 or call their local police department.
