ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) — The Town of Zionsville is inviting its residents to spend an evening on their porches Thursday, April 9 and order a meal from one of the Zionsville restaurants still operating with take-out or drive-thru options during the coronavirus pandemic.
"So far, it's been a really great response," Amanda Vela, Director of Communications for the Town of Zionsville, said. "I think people are looking for opportunities to do something a little bit different right now, so why not go outside on your own porch, maintain social distancing support our local restaurants?"
The Zionsville Porch Party starts at 6 p.m., and family-friendly music is encouraged.
"Have a little bit of fun with your family and join for a common cause," Vela said.
At 7 p.m., neighbors in Zionsville are encouraged to stand outside on their front porch, balcony or near a window and join in a "Clap for our Carers" — a show of gratitude for those working on the front line in the fight against COVID-19.
"The end goal is that we are supporting the people on the front lines, that we're supporting our own local public safety officials and they hope to come out and make an appearance," Vela said. "This is opportunity to clap for them, to wave to them, to show them that we're behind them and we all are in this together."
Leaders are also hoping Zionsville residents share photos and videos using the hashtags #PorchPartyZville, #ClapForOurCarers and #StayIN.
And as a precaution: Zionsville officials are reminding residents that social distancing is of utmost importance. This porch party is NOT a physical gathering and says everybody needs to stay on their own porch.
