WZPL's Make-A-Wish Request-A-Thon is underway

Last year's event raised more than $1 million.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Smiley Morning Show is hosting its annual "Make a Wish Request-a-Thon" and you can help make the wishes of local children come true.

It's as easy as calling in and making a donation.

You can request any song - from any genre - to play on 99.5 WZPL.

The 36-hour marathon began at 6 a.m. Thursday and ends Friday at 6 p.m.

Last year, the event raised more than $1 million, granting 107 wishes for Make-A-Wish kids in central Indiana.

Volunteers say each wish makes a difference.

"You see transformations a lot of times with these wishes, where their lives are changed, their families are changed, their whole mental attitude is changed, and so what we do here with raising the funds is a small thing," said volunteer Robert Auman. "Granting their wish, getting them to their destination or whatever they want to do is the small part. It's the long-lasting things that the wish does as a tool to make things so much better for these families."
