Woman drives into pool on the north side

Thankfully everyone is OK after a car drove into a pool on the north side of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Thankfully everyone is OK after a woman drove into a pool on the north side of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon.

The call came in around 4:30 p.m. for reports of a car that drove into a residential pool in the 8200 block of Northbrook Drive near 86th Street and Ditch Road.

Eyewitness News spoke with the homeowner who said he was outside by the pool when he witnessed a car come crashing through their fence and into the pool.

The driver was able to get out of the car to safety. An adult male passenger was also able to get out on his own.

The backyard of the home faces the parking lot of Anglican Cathedral Church of the Resurrection on Ditch Road.

Indianapolis Fire Department officials believe that the driver may have hit the gas, traveled up the grassy berm that separates the parking lot and the residence, driven over a tree stump, through the fence and into the pool which is estimated at 8 feet deep. It is estimated the car traveled 12 to 15 feet from the lot to the pool.

The homeowner says he has lived there for about 30 years and has never had anything like this happen before.
