UPDATE: Woman dies after being hit by car in downtown Indianapolis

The incident happened Monday shortly after 1 p.m. near Washington and Meridian streets.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a woman was hit by a car Monday afternoon in downtown Indianapolis.

Police said a woman was crossing the street on East Washington Street near South Meridian Street, when she was hit by a car shortly after 1 p.m. Oct. 23.

According to police, medics took the woman to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries.

The driver involved in the crash stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, IMPD said. The driver was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for a blood draw, which is standard procedure for crashes involving serious bodily injury.
