WESTFIELD, Ind. — The city of Westfield has approved a new ordinance to create a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or "DORA," downtown.
The ordinance passed with a 7-0 vote at a council meeting on Monday, June 24. The city must now submit their plan to the state's Alcohol and Tobacco Commission for approval.
The area would essentially be one where people 21 years of age and older can buy alcoholic drinks and carry them openly. But it does come with rules.
Drinks can only come in specific DORA plastic cups, and only two drinks can be served at a time. Those drinks are only allowed within the DORA boundaries.
Westfield said in a release that nine businesses within the boundary have applied to participate. Other businesses can request to be added to the designation list by resolution of the council, which will review applications each quarter.
So far, 13 Indiana cities have been approved for this kind of district.
