Westfield breaks ground on new YMCA

The city hopes to open the new facility by January of 2025.

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The city of Westfield is one step closer to having its own YMCA.

City leaders came together with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis on Dec. 6 to break ground on the new Ascension St. Vincent YMCA.

The facility will be 54,000 square feet and will be built on 10 acres of donated land at the southwest corner of Wheeler Road and 181st Street near the natatorium.

So far, $20 million of the needed $25 million has been raised for the project.

"This is so much more than a facility. This is a place where life change will happen. It's incredible to see the power of partnerships in action," said Greg Hiland, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Indianapolis.

"What we saw today is the city, the county, the schools, philanthropy, businesses all come together to solve a challenge that's not just facing Westfield, not just the state, but the country, and that's talent," capital campaign manager Mitch Frazier said.

The upcoming facility will be the 13th YMCA to be built in central Indiana. The city hopes to open the new YMCA by January 2025.
