CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — I-465 is open again after a fatal crash closed the eastbound lanes near US-31.

Police say a Nissan Sentra was going the wrong way on the eastbound side of I-465 when it collided with a FedEx truck pulling double trailers.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified the driver killed as 24-year-old Milca B. Alvarado Polanco from Indianapolis.

Police say the crash occurred in the center lane of I-465 around 5:30 a.m. Eastbound lanes were closed for about four hours.

The driver of the semi had minor injuries, and a passenger in the truck's sleeper berth was not hurt.

Police diverted traffic at US 31/Meridian Street and eastbound traffic is using 106th, 96th and 86th streets to access I-465 at Keystone Avenue. Eastbound traffic on I-465 had backed up to Michigan Road by the end of the morning rush hour.

Frustrated drivers turned to dangerous methods to get around the backup.

Another minor accident broke out in the westbound lanes.
