INDIANAPOLIS — The Versiti Blood Center of Indiana is partnering with the Circle City Classic to host a mobile blood drive and community outreach event at this year's HBCU football game.
The need for blood is constant, but currently, only 3% of the population donates each year.
This event will be an opportunity for fans to donate blood and learn how blood donation benefits their community. The event is on Saturday, Sept. 28 from noon - 3 p.m. outside of Lucas Oil Stadium within the Fan Festival location on South Street.
Versiti is encouraging people 16+ to consider donating blood. Officials said minority blood types are especially in demand to make sure patients receive the blood they need for transfusions.
Versiti said it specializes in collecting diverse blood types to help serve patients with rare blood diseases like sickle cell.
This marks the 40th annual Circle City Classic. The game will feature a matchup between North Carolina Central University and Norfolk State University.
