Vandal uses hammer to break several windows at the Allen County Courthouse

It's estimated repairs could cost more than $15,000, officials said.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Officials in Allen County are investigating a recent vandalism to the Allen County Courthouse.

According to NBC affiliate WPTA, the sheriff's department said a man broke into the building around 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, leaving thousands of dollars in damage.

A spokesperson for the department said someone used a sledgehammer to break glass on several entry doors.

Repairs to the courthouse are expected to cost at least $15,000.

In an update Saturday morning, the sheriff's department said they detained a "person of interest" and later arrested him on preliminary charges of criminal mischief, a level 6 felony, and burglary, a level 5 felony.

Allen County is approximately 135 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis.
