Police have now identified the man that was shot and killed Saturday morning at a north side liquor store as the owner, 70-year-old Joseph Klein. Employees of the Allied Liquor Store in the 5200 block of East 38th Street called police just before 2 a.m. reporting that their boss had been shot during a robbery.
Officers arrived and found Klein suffering from at least one gun shot wound. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition but died a short time later.
Police are looking for three male suspects wearing dark clothing who are armed. The robbers entered the liquor store and found the Klein in a back office where the shooting occurred, according to IMPD. Two other employees were uninjured. They saw the three suspects running out of the liquor store, headed south.
A sign in the window says the store will be closed Saturday.
Customers were in shock as they came by Saturday morning.
"That's ridiculous. If they would get jobs, we wouldn't have this. You know that's the problem with our world today. Everybody needs a job. I know there are jobs out here; I've been washing trucks 39 years so if I can get out there and do it at my age I know they can get out there and do it at a young age," said customer and neighbor T. J. Thomas.
