INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - An Indianapolis man died Friday in a two vehicle crash on the southwest side of Indianapolis.
State Police say Larry Doty, 65, died at the scene when his 2001 Chevy Cavalier sped through a dead end on Mooresville Road, struck a guard rail and a line of trees before going airborne and landing on the eastbound lanes of I-465. A semi-tractor trailer traveling on I-465 struck Doty's side of the car.
The crash occurred just before 10:00 a.m. and Decatur Township Fire Department medics pulled Doty from the car. Southbound/eastbound I-465 was closed for nearly three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
The driver of the semi, Mark Carnes of Canton, Ohio, was not injured.
Investigators have not determined why Doty ran off the road, however drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this crash.
