The Avon community is mourning the loss of a teenager who died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Hendricks County.

17-year-old Jon Legg was a student at Avon High School.

Police say no one else was injured in the crash in the 1700 block of South County Road 525 East. Officers found that the red Ford Fusion Legg was driving struck a tree.

Sources say speed and wet driving conditions were likely factors in the crash. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be involved in this incident.

Counselors will be on-hand at the high school Thursday.

The school district released the following statement:

"Avon Community School Corporation is devastated by the tragic death of Avon High School Student Jonathan Legg. Jonathan, a junior, was an exceptional school citizen who was highly thought of by his peers. His teachers said that he was hard-working, wonderful and witty. Jonathan was a member of the Avon Marching Black and Gold Band and was a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Counselors will be available beginning Thursday morning for students and staff."

Jonathan was born in Indianapolis and lived with his mother and step-father in Avon. He was a member of the Avon High School Symphonic Band and the Avon High School Jazz Band.

He's being remembered by his family as a good big brother to his three younger siblings and his love for hunting, shooting basketball, and playing video games.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 11, from 4 to 8 pm at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 am at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield.
