'Unlike any other place' | Local artist captures tradition at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

"I've been painting out here for a few years now, and I absolutely love it," Justin Vining said.

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — We are just 10 days away from the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, and a local artist has created a new piece to celebrate.

Justin Vining is originally from northern Indiana and now lives in Indianapolis. He said he loves painting local live sporting events, including the action at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

"I've been painting out here for a few years now, and I absolutely love it," Vining said. "So anytime the track is open to the public, I want to be out here painting. Nostalgia, tradition, memory, I don't know. This place is unlike any other place and to be out here painting it ... I just hope I evoke a little bit of that."

This isn't the first live event Vining has painted in Indy. Back in 2019, he painted an Indianapolis Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
