CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Police in Crawfordsville are investigating after a truck driver was killed in an accident outside a book printing plant on Wednesday.

The incident occurred June 12 in the parking lot of Lakeside Book Company, North Plant, located in the 1000 block of Sloan Street, not far west of Wabash College.

First responders found a 42-year-old man, identified as Adam Raad, of Alsip, Illinois, at the back of a flatbed semi trailer. Raad, a driver for a trucking company based out of Chicago, was taken to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another truck driver with the company told police he and Raad arrived in separate trucks for a scheduled pickup.

"(The driver) reported to investigators that while he was maneuvering a large container towards the back of the trailer using his tandem trailer axels, Mr. Raad had climbed onto the back of the trailer to open the container, unbeknownst to (him)," the City of Crawfordsville said in a statement. "The moving container collided with Mr. Raad, resulting in traumatic injuries."

The Crawfordsville Police Department is investigating the incident, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Raad.

Officials said no employees from Lakeside Book Company were involved in the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crawfordsville Police Department Det. Bob Rivers at (765) 362-3762 ext. 233.
