Tiny House Hotel has big appeal

Tiny House Hotel has big appeal

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – If you blink you just might miss it, one of the city's newest and most unique places to stay, the "Try It Tiny" hotel.

The tiny hotel opened in March.

"It is a little pop-up hotel of five tiny houses in the heart of downtown Indy," said Brittany Clute.

"Try It Tiny" is tucked between a building and a normal-sized house just south of Lucas Oil Stadium. Clute, the company's events director, describes it as a tiny place with grand appeal.

"They're like little hotel suites on wheels or houses on wheels with everything you need inside," Clue said.

Each of the houses sits on a trailer, which brought it to the site. The houses range from 150 to 220-square feet and they are all themed.

"This is the Monon Trail House, the smallest one we have," she said opening the door and taking us inside.

Like the others, it has a plush queen-size bed, a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower and a kitchenette with a sink, two-burner stove top and mini-fridge. The kitchen also comes stocked with plates, glasses and utensils.

Other suites include the Indy 500 and Pacers-themed suites. They accommodate two to three people with rates starting at $75 a night, with event pricing in play when there's a football game or big concert. Booking works like an Airbnb and is all online.

Two of the houses are two-stories, including the one that's Pacers-themed. It includes a sitting area, a queen-size loft bed and shower or bath tub.

John Hamilton, in from Georgia for the FDIC convention, checked in mid-afternoon.

"Very nice," he said as he entered and looked around. "I like it lot more than I expected. It looks nice and is homey, a good place to stay for a week."

Hamilton said he's a big fan of the tiny house shows and that his wife, "will be very jealous I get to stay here."

The tiny house hotel also includes a common area with picnic tables, a fire pit, grill and free parking, which is a big plus during Colts games.

What you won't find? Room service, a spa, pool but Clute said that's what makes the Tiny House Hotel special. "It's for people looking for a unique experience," she said noting demand has been strong.

Clute said the houses are booked for this week's FDIC convention and most weekends over the next few months.

The tiny houses will be available through November.

While they have air conditioning and heating, Clute said they don't have enough insulation for those cold winter days.
