INDIANAPOLIS — On Thursday, thousands trekked through downtown Indianapolis to make their way to the Indiana Convention Center for the 10th National Eucharistic Congress.
More than 55,000 Catholics are attending, looking to renew and revive their faith.
It is the first time it's being held in the U.S. since 1941, and people are journeying to Indianapolis from all over the country.
"It's part of the Eucharistic revival for the Catholic Church. We're trying to inject more energy in our parishioners and our priests and everybody so we can enjoy and understand the body of the Eucharist of the mass for every one of us," said Father Efarin Rosado, who is visiting from Minnesota.
After registering and getting checked in, many attended Mass and then prepared for the breakout sessions and workshops, held at the Indiana Convention Center.
Thursday's theme: The Greatest Love Story.
The Victor family said the theme is the main reason why they traveled from Beaver, Pennsylvania.
"The only reason we're here is because of Jesus and the Eucharist, and we're so happy to be here with a larger group," Justin Victor said. "Being part of a smaller family, we come here and it feels like we're reunited with everyone."
Everyone attending is faithful that this Congress will make an impact.
"I think there will be an injection of energy, spiritual energy for our Church and Christian churches all over the country, so yes, I'm very proud to be a part of this. So yes, let's continue to work together for Jesus Christ," Rosado said.
The Congress continues through the weekend and will close with a Liturgy Mass at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, July 21.
