Voters in North Texas have approved a school district bond issue that includes $50 million for a new high school football stadium.
The approval came Saturday during a vote on a $220 million bond issue that also includes an auditorium and other infrastructure in the McKinney school district.
The 12,000-seat stadium costs nearly $63 million.
$12.5 million of the stadium's construction has already been raised as part of a bond that was approved in 2000.
It is one of the most expensive high school football stadiums in the country.
McKinney had just one high school in 1962 when the district built its current 7,000-seat stadium.
The district, one of the fastest-growing in Texas, now has more than 24,500 students.
