Terminally ill Hoosier celebrates final Indy 500 with IMS President Doug Boles, Sandi Patty

On Sunday, IMS President Doug Boles joined in an official pace car, and five-time Grammy winner Sandi Patty sang "The Star-Spangled Banner."

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — For over 50 years, one Hoosier has held Indianapolis 500 parties and celebrations, but she's not expected to live to see the race this year — so one organization is bringing "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" to her.

Anew Care, an Indiana home health service, announced it is granting Florence Miskoweic her final wish to celebrate this year's Indy 500 with the help from Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles and singer Sandi Patty.

"She wanted all the traditions of the Speedway and asked if I would sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' Of course I will. Of course I will. What an honor,” Patty said.

On Sunday, April 14, Boles joined in an official pace car, and the five-time Grammy-award winner sang the national anthem. Some special cars also made an appearance.

"Oh my God, fantastic. I never thought this would happen to me,” Miskoweic said.

“Thank you for loving the Speedway like you do,” Boles said.

"I want to thank everybody, and God bless every one of you,” Miskoweic said.
