TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — Two teens are dead and a third is in critical condition after a crash around 8:15 a.m. near Lafayette.

The Tippecanoe County coroner said the victims were students at Harrison High School in West Lafayette.

Principal Cory Marshall issued a statement about the crash:

We are heartbroken and saddened to hear about the crash that involved three Harrison students. On behalf of the school we send our deepest condolences to the families involved. The TSC has deployed additional counselors to the schools impacted to help meet the emotional needs of our staff and students. We ask that the community keep the families, staff, and students in its thoughts and prayers.

The two teens who died were 17-year-old Dalton Kendall and 16-year-old Kyle Richardson. Quinton Crabtree, 16, was critically injured and is receiving treatment at IU Methodist Hospital.

Police said drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor.

The crash happened at 100 North and Wexford Drive on Lafayette's far east side. Police said a black 2011 Nissan Altima was going east on 100 North. Witnesses said they saw the car speeding. The driver then lost control after going over a hill and drove off the road and into a tree.

Roads were wet, but not snow-covered or icy during the time of the crash.
