What do you do when you have a multi-million dollar mansion, and don't live in it much anymore? It's a unique problem to have, so a local entrepreneur is opening his doors to others who'd like a taste of the high life.
It is a lavish estate nestled in the trees near 116th Street & Ditch Road in Carmel, but the owner spends most of his time in Hawaii.
Entrepreneur Scott Jones, best known for his invention of voice mail, and the search engine ChaCha, has listed five rooms on the Airbnb website.
"This is what we call the White Room. This is my oldest son Benjamin's room, and it's the most popular because it's $95 a night."
There is the Blue Room, the bedroom of his second oldest son, Daniel.
"And Daniel looked a whole like this a few years ago," referring to his youngest son Lucas.
Scott, his wife and two youngest children now live at a home east of Honolulu.
The two little ones make the most of the space in the Carmel mansion, running through the hallways and rooms.
"Let's go down the slide!" shouted Lucas, referring to the wooden spiral slide in the home.
Three-year-old Lucas and one-year-old Alessandra spent much of their time in the green room.
When Scott Jones moved in here twenty years ago, he and his family had all 30,000 square feet of this mansion to themselves. Over the years, he's hosted quite a few social events for the public but only recently has he been renting out individual rooms.
The most expensive room is the Master Suite, which rents for $295 a night. It comes with a waterfall shower, a two-ton brass bathtub, and the ultimate in automated bathrooms.
As Jones demonstrated, the remote control for one of the side-by-side toilets in the master bathroom, "And you can open them up. If you're a guy you can open up the other part. You can automatically clean it."
We inquired of Scott, "So you kind of rent from yourself then? I suppose you give yourself the discount."
Scott replied, "I get the super discount."
If you want the full experience, five bedrooms and much of the rest of the home rents for $5,000 nightly.
Spiral wooden slide rides are included.
