SUMMITVILLE, Indiana — One person is dead after a crash involving a train and a dump truck in Madison County.
Police said the crash happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. near Main Street at Walnut Street in Summitville.
Police said a Norfolk & Southern train was was going south when it hit a Freightliner dump truck owned by Wimmer Lime service that was traveling west. The crash happened at the crossing on Mill Street just east of Main Street.
The truck caught fire after the crash, destroying the cab of the vehicle. The man drivinng was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.
Hazmat units cleaned up leaking fluids from the crash. First responders from Summitville Police Department, Summitville Fire Department, Madison County Hazmat and Madison County EMA assisted in the incident.
