INDIANAPOLIS - A memorial was held Saturday for five high school students killed a half-century ago.

The Franklin High School students died on October 2, 1961 when they collided with a train on the way home from school. A classmate organized the memorial at the railroad crossing where the students died.

One of the victims' sisters says it sends a message to every family.

"My sister and I had an argument that morning and I left the house and went to work and by that afternoon, five kids had gone home to be in heaven and I never got a chance to say I'm sorry," said Sharon Pratt. "It can happen to anybody. You think it will never happen to you, but that's not the story. It can happen to anybody and I know that now."

The victims of the accident ranged in age from 14 to 17 years old.
