KOKOMO, Ind. (WTHR) - A 16-year-old high school student has been arrested after allegedly bringing a gun to school and sharing a picture on social media.
Kokomo police say they were alerted to the situation after an anonymous tip Wednesday night.
"That investigation resulted in Kokomo Police locating a 16-year-old juvenile at a north side Kokomo residence," police said in a statement. "The juvenile was transported to the Kinsey Youth Center without incident."
The teenager has been charged with Carrying a Handgun without a License, a Level 5 Felony; Carrying a Handgun without a License, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Harassment by Using Computer Network or other Form of Electronic Communication.
Word spread quickly about the situation to students and parents.
"That's crazy. It's just crazy. It's unbelievable," said Molly Phillips, whose daughter is a freshman at the school. "It makes you really question everything you do as a parent."
"I don't feel like we are different from any other school, so no...I feel like there are problems everywhere and as long as we have guns around," said parent Annette Tackett.
School officials did send a short, recorded message to parents about the situation, calling it an isolated incident and say no active threats exist at the school.
