Storm damages Center Grove High School football stadium

Under the Friday night lights, the Center Grove Trojans were not only going against the Fort Wayne Carroll Chargers, but also the wind and storms.

INDIANAPOLIS — Friday night's storms caused several central Indiana high school football games to be rescheduled to Saturday — and Center Grove High School is left cleaning up.

Under the Friday night lights, the Trojans were not only going against the Fort Wayne Carroll Chargers, but also the wind and storms.

"It never really stopped all night long," Center Grove football head coach Eric Moore said.

It wasn't until halftime when things took a turn.

In the stadium video provided by Center Grove Athletics, you can see the moment when the wind picked up the south bleachers and threw it into the goal post.

Moore said multiple lightning delays continued to push the game back. As the players waited out the last delay in the locker room, the teams decided to call it.

"We thought we were going to play a football game so we pretty much stayed in focus of football for the whole time till about 11:15 p.m. or so," Moore said.

Moore said without the quick response from school officials, people could have still been in the stands when the storm picked up.

"That 15 minute buffer we took to empty everybody out of the stadium might have saved someone's life, you never know," Moore said.

But until another ball is thrown in this end zone, Moore said his team will work around this hurdle.

"You always want to give the kids a chance. They practiced so hard in that heat all week. You just want to give them the chance playing high school football," Moore said.

The Trojans won Friday night at the half 28-14. Their next game will be against Trinity High School in Louisville.
