Rally voices concerns about reproductive rights in Indiana

The event comes two years after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

INDIANAPOLIS — A group rallied at the Statehouse Monday to voice concerns about reproductive freedom in Indiana.

The event comes two years after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

It was organized by the group Mad Voters. We talked to the group's director of advocacy, who said the fall of Roe pulled her and others into activism. Now she said she's doing what she can to support reproductive rights.

"When we have this abortion ban with such limited exceptions, it really cuts down on a woman's ability to get care in a timely manner and delays care for other things, like ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage," said Kaitie Rector.

The event was also an opportunity to meet some of the candidates running for office this year, including the Democrat vying to be Indiana's next governor, Jennifer McCormick.

Indiana Right to Life also marked the day, applauding state lawmakers for acting quickly in voting to put an abortion ban in place after the fall of Roe.

A statement from the organization says, in part, "The new law is doing what it was intended to do: Saving the lives of unborn babies by making abortion very rare, and only for those exceptions written into law."
