INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The number of legal claims filed against the state over the Indiana State Fair stage collapse has reached 100 and might climb even higher.
Attorney General spokesman Bryan Corbin said Wednesday that 10 additional tort claims had arrived in the mail or reached the office Tuesday. Midnight Tuesday was the deadline to submit a claim or have one postmarked. It's possible more claims still could arrive in the mail with the Tuesday postmark.
The attorney general's office has been working with victims' compensation specialist Kenneth Feinberg and claimants' lawyers to develop a system for paying out awards on the claims, and Corbin said officials are close to completing it. State law caps the state's total liability at $5 million.
