MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) – The Madison County prosecutor assigned to oversee the investigation into the May 6 shooting death of Dreasjon Reed released a statement Wednesday, calling on Indiana State Police to handle the criminal investigation.
In a statement, Deputy Prosecutor Rosemary Khoury says it is best if IMPD in not involved in the investigation. 13News reached out to ISP and received confirmation it would be taking over the investigation.
The full statement released by Prosecutor Khoury can be read here:
Reed, 21, was shot following a police pursuit on the city's northwest side on May 6. Reed ended up stopping the car at 62nd Street and Michigan Road on the city's northwest side.
He then encountered an officer and was shot and killed while streaming the incident on Facebook Live.
In the video, at least 12 to 15 gunshots can be heard before someone says “police action shooting.”
Wednesday, IMPD also released information on the officer involved in the deadly shooting of Reed and the officer that made an insensitive comment after the shooting.
The officer who shot Reed has been identified as Dejoure Mercer. He has been with the department since 2016. Mercer is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure during the investigation.
