INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The race to be the next Marion County sheriff is in full swing.
Sheriff John Layton can't run in 2018 because he's reached his term limit. This week, two people threw their names in the hat for his job.
Southport Police Chief Tom Vaughn is one of them. His family joined him as he made the announcement on Monument Circle Thursday morning.
"The sheriff's office that I envision will be more committed to rebuilding trust on a household level all over this county," Vaughn said.
Marion County Sgt. Jim Grimes announced earlier this week he's seeking the Republican nomination for sheriff.
