INDIANAPOLIS — An 82-year-old woman has died following a house fire on Indy's southeast side Saturday afternoon.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, around 4:41 p.m. on Dec. 14, firefighters received a call about a fire at a house located in the 5200 block of Chisolm Trail, which is near Thompson Road and Emerson Avenue.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a single-story residence with smoke showing. Firefighters were able to confirm someone was trapped inside the home within minutes of arriving on scene. Unfortunately, at 4:52 p.m., firefighters discovered an 82-year-old woman was deceased inside the home.
IFD says the house had working smoke alarms at the time of the fire. IMPD Homicide detectives arrived on scene, per standard operating procedure.
Family members reportedly told firefighters that the victim lived alone, but was checked on daily by family. She had lived in the house for over 30 years.
