Miss Indiana, Mekayla Diehl, has become an internet phenomenon after her appearance in the swimsuit competition this week.
Diehl earned praise from some fans on social media after flaunting her curves in a bikini at the Miss USA competition. She looked athletic, not stick-thin. However, some questioned her size 4 as "normal" when the average American woman is a size 12.
Still, Diehl is getting kudos for saying, "You can't worry about the girl standing next to you, because you'll never be that girl. Your body is a gift and you have to love it."
On Wednesday, Miss USA Nia Sanchez told the TODAY Show that many pageant contestants are athletic, and their bodies show the results of their feats on the field or track. Sanchez said it wasn't about "being skinny and having the clothes fall of your bones, but being fit, healthy and active. And Mekayla is."
