Smoke from west Indianapolis trash fire visible for miles

The fire broke out Thursday evening in the 3600 block of Lafayette Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Fire Department said trash burning behind a commercial building on the city's west side sent smoke across the area that was visible for miles Thursday evening.

Around 5:30 p.m. March 21, trucks were dispatched to the 3600 block of Lafayette Road, just south of West 38th Street, after multiple callers reported a fire.

Crews discovered a large trash fire near a masonry building, an IFD spokesperson said.

The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
