INDIANAPOLIS — A single lane of Capitol Avenue, between 13th and 16th Streets, has reopened a week earlier than expected.
The westernmost lane of Capitol Avenue will stay closed due to underground utility work near IU Health’s new downtown hospital project, according to IU Health.
Traffic officials said the sidewalk along the east side of Capitol Avenue will be accessible to pedestrians. The north-and-southbound IndyGo Red Line service will continue to operate through the area, and the station at 14th and Capitol Avenue will stay accessible to riders.
"All entrances to IU Health Methodist Hospital will remain accessible, but drivers should allow for extra commute time and travel with caution in the area," a spokesperson for IU Health said in a news release. "Travelers whose destination is not the hospital may want to avoid the area. Access to Starbucks at 13th & Capitol will be maintained throughout."

The hospital is expected to open in 2027.
