INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Simon Malls will reopen seven malls and outlets in Indiana beginning May 4.
Three malls in Marion County, which were supposed to open on May 2 according to a CNBC report, will open after Marion County lifts its stay-at-home order and gives the "greenlight."
Those malls include: Castleton Square Mall, Circle Centre Mall and The Fashion Mall at Keystone.
The remaining seven malls — College Mall, Greenwood Park Mall, Indiana PO, Hamilton Town Center, Tippecanoe Mall, University Park Mall and Lighthouse PO — in the state will open on Monday, May 4 with strict protocol, according to John Rulli, president of Malls for Simon.
On Friday afternoon, the Governor said that as malls open, they would only open at 50 percent capacity. There will also be certain areas closed off, limited entrances, and social distancing put into place.
Employees at Simon malls and outlets will also hand out masks and sanitary wipes and keep count of those who enter and exit the malls.
Employees of the mall are not required to work if they do not feel comfortable doing so.
Simon malls have an average of 250 stores and they expect 50 to 60 to open initially, followed by another 50 to 60 the following week.
Simon Malls said that the plan to reopen is a go, but may be adjusted depending on city and state governments.
"We now expect to open the following properties in the first half of May based on current state and/or local stay-at-home or closure orders which are subject to change."
