GREENWOOD, Ind. — A statewide Silver Alert has been issued for a man missing from Johnson County.

The Greenwood Police Department is investigating the disappearance of 38-year-old Robert Farmer, who's described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes.

Police said Farmer was last seen Sunday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Whiteland, Indiana, wearing a black baseball hat, black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes and driving a red 2004 Jeep Cherokee with Indiana license plate 441EBP.

Farmer is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance, police said.

Anyone with information on Farmer's whereabouts is asked to contact the Greenwood Police Department at 317-346-6336 or call 911.

Whiteland is roughly 20 miles south of Indianapolis.

Amber Alert vs. Silver Alert: What's the difference?

There are specific standards a person's disappearance must meet in order for police to declare an Amber Alert or a Silver Alert.

Amber Alerts are for children under the age of 18 who are believed to have been abducted and in danger. Police also need to have information about a suspect and their car to issue an Amber Alert.

Silver Alerts are for missing and endangered adults or children. They are much more common for missing people. It was not until last year when the standards for Silver Alerts were expanded to include children.

In both situations, these alerts must be issued by police.
