Indianapolis man killed, 7 more people injured in shooting outside Louisville nightclub

The shooting happened outside of the H20 Lounge around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Russell neighborhood nightclub has been temporarily closed after an early Saturday shooting outside of the business left one person dead and injured seven others.

Louisville Metro Police officers responded to the incident at the H20 Lounge near South 25th Street and West Broadway around 12:45 a.m.

Officers found a man outside of the business with gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene by officers until EMS arrived but was later pronounced dead. The man was later identified as 40-year-old Joseph Bowers, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Police said a short time later, another injured victim with gunshot wounds was found and was taken to an area hospital. Their injuries are believed to be critical and life threatening.

LMPD also confirmed six other adults showed up to other Louisville-area hospitals with injuries stemming from the shooting. Police said their injuries are non-life threatening.

The Louisville ABC released a statement hours after the shooting.

“The incident at Club H20 is currently under investigation by LMPD and Louisville Metro ABC. ABC Administrator Silveria has discussed the situation with the owner of H20, who has agreed to voluntarily close the establishment temporarily. This decision, made in light of our shared concerns for public safety, allows them time to mourn the tragic loss of their employee while ensuring the community’s well-being.”

In an update on Friday, June 28, authorities clarified that the employee was the one who remains in critical condition in the hospital. Police do not have a motive in the shooting.
