'Shoe Day' at IPS Daniel Webster School 46 is a holiday tradition

Besides new shoes, every student got socks, gloves, a hat and a toy.

INDIANAPOLIS — Some IPS students are wearing new shoes today, thanks to a longtime holiday tradition.

The Indiana Pacers have gone to Daniel Webster School 46 for 19 years to donate shoes and socks to every student.

Back in the day, Diego Moreno was one of those students looking forward to Shoe Day.

Now, he works as a bilingual specialist at the school and is part of the staff, giving back to a new generation.

"It gives you a whole different point of view on how much this really means to people, how much this really means to the kids, and back when I was a kid, I really enjoyed coming to Shoe Day, and now seeing it here, I can give back to the kids in need who really enjoy days like this," Moreno said.

Kroger, the Pacers and Shoe Carnival teamed up for the giveaway.
