'Shining A Light' display honoring service members debuts on Monument Circle

The "Shining A Light" display on Monument Circle debuted Saturday night, honoring veterans and active service members.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – When it comes to Indy's most recognizable landmarks, Monument Circle is already near the top.

But an addition starting Saturday night, is taking it over the top.

Just calling it a light show, doesn't do it justice.

The IPL and Circle Tower buildings become movie screens.

A 5-minute video plays to honor men and women who have or currently serve.

"I will tell you part of it I got a little teary eyed I thought it was very touching and emotional," one viewer said.

It's been a years-long process getting it ready, with a $7.6 million price tag.

That means high expectations and everyone we talked to walked away saying 'wow'.

"I knew a little bit, but until you see it for yourself, it's pretty awesome," another viewer said.

The display was especially moving for people in uniform.

"It made me feel really patriotic, especially when the band was playing it really made me proud to be serving and wearing the uniform full time," one service member told us.
