CASS COUNTY, Indiana — Police in northern Indiana say a dog attacked and killed an 89-year-old woman Wednesday.
Cass County Sheriff Edward Schroeder said it happened around 5:45 a.m. Dec. 6 at a home in the 200 block of County Road 400 West.
Investigators said Beverly Hayden's 100-pound pit bull attacked her in a living room. A family member tried to stop the attack but was unsuccessful.
Schroeder said the dog escaped from the home after the incident but was found Wednesday evening. The dog was quarantined at a local veterinarian's office.
