Sheridan Fire Department Captain Travis Stern is under arrest after investigators say he removed evidence from a crash scene. He faces charges of official misconduct and obstruction of justice, both level 6 felonies.

Travis Stern, 37, of Sheridan, responded to a crash involving a relative, Joshua Stoops. The crash occurred January 31 on State Road 38 at Six Points Road. Stoops told police he fell asleep at the wheel of his Chevrolet Silverado truck. The truck drifted off the road and struck a utility pole. A passenger in the truck was injured.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department says an informant revealed that Stern responded to the crash scene and allegedly removed narcotic evidence from the wreck. While the alleged narcotics and paraphernalia were destroyed, investigators say the informant came forward with information leading to Stern's arrest. Sheridan Fire Department officials also cooperated during the investigation.

Stern was taken into custody on Friday, February 4, after deputies obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Stern is currently being held at the Hamilton County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
