Shelbyville - Police Captain Doug Hasecuster pleaded guilty to misdemeanor official misconduct in connection with a 2010 investigation.
He was placed on one year's probation and was ordered not to contact the victim.
Hasecuster was placed on leave without pay after a Board of Public Works meeting in July.
Hasecuster was originally facing several charges including child seduction involving a 16-year-old girl. Charges originally included child seduction (Class D felony), furnishing alcohol to a minor (Class B misdemeanor), contributing to the deliquency of a minor (Class A misdemeanor) and false informing (Class B misdemeanor).
The charges were the result of a year-long investigation that came to light in July 2010.
Capt. Hasecuster, who worked the midnight shift before he was placed on leave, was accused of child seduction, providing alcohol to a minor and false informing for an alleged relationship with a teen he was entrusted to protect.
"It was a family member. I don't know what kind of family member. It was a family member that came forward to the prosecutor," said Lt. Michael Turner, Shelbyville Police Department.
According to court documents, Hasecuster, who was also part of a security detail at the high school, engaged in sexual deviate conduct with the teen, provided wine to a minor, then lied about it to investigators.
The alleged activity took place between March and November 2009.
Hasecuster was not available for comment. Family members at his home were visibly upset and would not comment.
The school system released the following statement:
"Shelbyville Central Schools had been told informally that an investigation of possible misconduct between a local law enforcement officer and an underage individual was in process; however no complaints or reports were received by school personnel."
This story has been updated from its original version to reflect that a plea deal was reached.
