Seniors helping seniors: Sullivan HS students dress up for nursing home residents

Three Sullivan High School seniors may have missed out on their prom, but they put their dresses to good use.

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHR) — As a senior at Sullivan High School, Reagan Holeman has lost most of her senior year. But she and two of her classmates have decided not to focus on what they have missed out on, but focus instead on what they can do to help others.

Holeman, Jackie Wible and Abbi Watson put on their prom dresses and visited the Breckenridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. It was high school seniors doing their part to help senior citizens.

Breckenridge Administrator Sarah Wall said the residents were so glad the girls came by to show off their dresses.

They stayed outside, but once both sides got to the glass, they talked to each other.

"I hope people continue to do this even though it might not always be in quarantine." Wible said.

Many of the 36 residents inside jockeyed for a position to see the girls, and even shared some memories of their own.

"I think they loved it, and we loved seeing their reaction," Watson said. "It made our day, and I think it made theirs too."

Wall said it was heartwarming to see the girls take time out of their days to come by the facility. The residents were reminded of some of their high school memories, and the high school seniors got to make new memories of their own.
