INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that displaced a family and caused significant damage to their home on Indianapolis' southeast side Sunday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the 6300 block of Selago Drive, not far from South Arlington Avenue and Troy avenues.
The family told firefighters they heard a loud boom before they smelled smoke and their smoke alarms went off. Thankfully, the family of five and their dog made it out uninjured.
The fire broke out in the garage and spread to the attic, IFD said, causing substantial damage to the home and four cars. By the time firefighters arrived, heavy fire was coming from the house.
Crews brought the fire under control in roughly 25 minutes with an "aggressive attack," the department said.
No firefighters were injured.
