WATCH: Sean Ash comes up short in watermelon seed catapult contest at Indiana State Fair

Contestants can try to fling their watermelon seed the farthest each day at 3 p.m. next to Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

INDIANAPOLIS — Several 13News personalities enjoyed the festivities at the Indiana State Fair Wednesday and one tried his hand at a popular competition.

Meteorologist Sean Ash stepped up to take part in the watermelon seed catapulting contest, but did not place in the top three. He did, however, get a participation ribbon for his effort.

Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, was WTHR Day at the Indiana State Fair.

The winner, Jianxing Chen from China, is in Indiana visiting family. His cousin also earned a spot on the 13News "medal podium" after the contest.

The watermelon seed catapulting contest, which involves flinging seeds from a small tabletop catapult for distance, is held at 3 p.m. each day of the fair outside Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

This year's fair runs through Aug. 18 and is open every day except Mondays.
