Rushville Police investigate Saturday night shooting

Rushville Police are investigating a confrontation in a convenience store that escalated into a shooting Saturday night.

RUSHVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) – Police are investigating a confrontation in a convenience store that escalated into a shooting Saturday night.

Witnesses told Rushville Police that around 9:00 p.m. Saturday, a man came in to the CountryMark gas station on West 3rd Street and became “verbally aggressive” toward employees and customers.

That behavior led to a fight between the man and another patron, who eventually pulled a gun and shot the man in the abdomen.

He was taken to Rush Memorial Hospital then transferred by air ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis where he remained on Sunday. Police did not have an update on his condition.

Police are not releasing any names of those involved, but say the shooter stayed at the scene and has not been charged with any crime at this time.

Police say alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the incident.

According to a media release from Rushville Police Chief Craig Tucker, the Rush County Prosecutor has been working with his detectives on the investigation and will assist in determining what, if any, criminal charges are appropriate.
