Runners lace-up shoes for 13th annual Carmel Marathon

Although the race is fairly new, it's actually one of the top 25 in the nation to qualify runners for the Boston Marathon.

CARMEL, Ind. — More than a thousand runners took to the streets of Carmel for the city's 13th annual marathon.

Although the race is fairly new, it's actually one of the top 25 in the nation to qualify runners for the Boston Marathon.

And, for the third year in a row, it was sold out.

“We’re really excited and thankful about another sellout in our marathon,” said Todd Oliver, race director for the Carmel Marathon Weekend. “There are a lot of spring marathon options, so hitting our 1,200-person capacity three years in a row indicates we are on the right track.”

The 13th annual Carmel Marathon Weekend, held on Saturday, also hosts the Carmel Half Marathon, Indiana Spine Group 10K, Indiana Members Credit Union 5K, and a marathon relay.

After the race, runners celebrated with free post-race pancakes at the Pancake Village sponsored by Indiana Spine Group.

It's unclear how many pancakes were munched on by runners this year, but if it's anything like last year when more than 6,000 pancakes were served, it's sure to be a lot!
