Riley Children's Foundation launches year-end giving campaign

Through Dec. 31, SOL Foundation, Inc. and Costco Wholesale will match individual donations – up to $100,000 – toward areas of greatest need.

INDIANAPOLIS — Each year, the Riley Children's Foundation's giving campaign highlights the amazing care they provide to families in our area, and how your donations make that possible.

For the next several weeks, 13News is proud to be part of it by sharing stories of the families that depend on Riley.

13Sunrise anchor Julia Moffitt introduces you to Riley Kid Lucy Beyers. Lucy has done so much to give back to Riley since she was born with a disorder that required surgery as a baby, and many more that followed.

Lucy has used her love for coloring and drawing through artwork to help raise money for other families that depend on Riley. She and her family are grateful for all that Riley has done.

"When we were pregnant with Lucy, at 12 weeks, we figured out that something was kind of wrong, we didn't know her heart rate was low in utero," said Courtney Beyers, Lucy's mother. "We just kind of had to wait it out and watch her grow. At 20 weeks, we had our big scan, and she was diagnosed with heterotaxy, which is a genetic disorder where she was malrotated, and then, her heart had numerous defects to it."

"So then, our journey began at Riley right then because we were trying to figure out where was going to be the best spot for Lucy to get her treatment," Courtney said.

As so many families have found out, Riley is the place.

Julia Moffitt will bring you more on Lucy's journey Monday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. on 13News.

Through Dec. 31, SOL Foundation, Inc. and Costco Wholesale will match individual donations – up to $100,000 – toward areas of greatest need. You can donate today to double your impact at RileyKids.org.
